ThreatDefence was a sponsor of the AUSCERT 2026 Cyber Security Conference on the Gold Coast. There was great energy and plenty of insightful conversations about cyber resilience.

Takeaways for security operations teams

  • AI will raise the bar on both sides. Attackers are moving faster, using automation and AI to scale phishing, identity abuse and evasive activity. Defenders need AI-assisted detection, enrichment and investigation, with human oversight, strong evidence and clear response playbooks.
  • The SOC model needs to evolve. Traditional tiered SOC operations are under pressure. Teams need faster triage, better context and clearer ownership from detection through to response. The goal is not more alerts. The goal is better decisions.
  • SIEM value is shifting from log collection to evidence-based detection. Collecting telemetry is only the starting point. The value comes from turning identity, endpoint, cloud, network and threat intelligence signals into high-confidence detections that analysts can act on.
